About Mercury Audio Player

The idea for Mercury was born out of a love of music and a desire for simplicity.

When was the last time you read on a software company's website that a program was considered complete? Can't remember? Neither can we. Instead, a trend has risen. A trend that prefers adding more and more to the current software compilation instead of deeming the project finished. A trend that would rather see countless features in a never-ending list instead of keeping things simple and to the point. A trend that insists they do too much.

We, the Mercury Audio Player Developers, do not believe in such trends and refuse whole-heartedly to follow them. Mercury Audio Player keeps it simple, complete, and portable. In the multimedia software field, we asked a lot of questions and did a lot of research to find out what people use and what they don't. As a result, only the most popular and useful features have been added to Mercury Audio Player, along with a few unique things that help bring Mercury Audio Player to a new level of control and comfort. That is where Mercury Audio Player will succeed. There will not be countless releases just to include the new built-in ad support, integrated MSN installer, or free subscription to "Viagra News". No, not in our lifetime. We are here to end the endless "stuff".

With Mercury's tiny digital footprint and ease of portability (not to mention our grand dream of what an audio player should be), we are confident that Mercury Audio Player has what it takes (and lacks what it doesn't need) to go straight to the top of everyone's free-software wishlist and become the new standard in the digital experience.

You're on it, buddy!

Jered is responsible for the main programming in Mercury. Actually, he's the only programmer. So if something sucks, this is the man to yell at. When he isn't working on Mercury, he's usually being yelled at to work on it more, which has caused him to have very low self esteem. On the plus side, Mercury is coming along quite nicely, isn't it? To raise his self-esteem, Jered regularly takes classes such as "Beginning Operating Systems - Windows 98", and "Intro to C", where he earns high grades and pretends they are advanced classes. However, despite the wealth of computer knowledge he has aquired through the state college, his main programming knowledge is mostly self-taught.

Although he may look like the coolest guy in the world, this guy ends up with all the side-projects related to Mercury, such as this website. Actually, just about anything visually related to Mercury was tackled by him. On top of maintaining the site, he also developed the default skin for Mercury, the Mercury logo, and assisted in sculpting the waveform spectrum analyzer. He also makes sure to give Jered his daily dose of suggestions and bugs, and then they fight each other to the death over which features are really needed and which can be thrown out. When he isn't designing visual content, he's writing awesome trance music, which you should definitely check out at his official website.

Trapper handles all the fun things when it comes to Mercury, like the spectrum analyzer and teaching Jered all the concepts he needs so he can write Mercury and pretend he did it all himself. Yes, Jered can proudly declare that he learned everything he knows on his own. When Trapper isn't teaching Jered how C/C++ is done, he's doing some pretty selfish things like developing software for impaired kids or setting up linux servers to host other people's websites and stuff.
